what
is phonology ? phonology is sience about how the sounds combine to form words.
First
we have to know clasification of sounds.
Because a difference in sound structure also
causes a shift in meaning. An example is [k] in cable and [t] in table
You can see its
difference clearly.
Allophones
As
was noted earlier, however, phonemes have different pronunciations in specific
contexts. For instance, the phoneme /p/ is aspirated initially in a syllable
but unaspirated medially or finally. Thus, the phoneme /p/ has two allophones that
are in complementary distribution: aspirated [ph] in one context and
unaspirated [p–] in another.
Other
side, Words consist of syllables. The
structure of syllables is determined
partly by universal and partly by language
specific principles. And also explain about stress or intonation.
For ex : Present /’preznt/
Present /pre’znt/
sometimes difference stress will make different meaning.
